Environment

We regard the environment and sustainability issues as integral elements of our business. We are committed to best practice environmental management in all aspects of our operations. This matches our 'here-to-stay' business objectives and our long-term vision for the protection, management and sustainable utilisation of the environment.

Our vision is clear: "Creating what matters" today without compromising tomorrow.  We believe that taking a holistic approach to sustainability works.  It needs to be part of what we do, every day.

A few examples about how we do this: renewable energy use, water conservation, use of sustainable materials, protection of sensitive habitat areas, reducing paper usage, lower electricity consumption, video conferencing and educating our staff on 'greener' living practices in their own homes.

We have been members of the Green Building Council of Australia since 2005 and were pioneers in building the first "Green" building in the country.

The Henry Deane Building was the first building to achieve 4.5 star SEDA for base building and 5 star SEDA for fituout. At the time, in 2001, it was described as the greenest building in Australia.

In 2007, the Combined Squadron Headquarters base at RAAF Richmond was the Commonwealth Government's Five Star Green Star building. The building picked up two prestigious industry awards for Baulderstone: the NSW Master Builders' Association's award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency and the national 'Environment and Energy Efficiency Building Award - National Commercial Project Valued Over $10 million'.

In 2007 we finished construction of Adelaide's first Five Star Green Star Certified building, City Central Tower 1 which is also the biggest Green Star certified project in Australia. The project was awarded the South Australian Australian Institute of Building award for Excellence in Commercial Sustainable Development at the 2008 awards. We also completed the Five Star City Central Tower 2 in 2008.

And it's not just in Building where we are excelling. Baulderstone was one of the first companies in Australia to achieve 3rd party certification to AS ISO 14001 (for the Western Link project in Melbourne in 1997). We employ an Environmental Management System that complies with AS ISO 14001 "Environmental Management Systems" and are pioneering new techniques to manage environmental impact on the local community and wildlife.

On the Tullamarine-Calder Interchange and Pacific Highway Upgrade projects, our teams went beyond expectations to manage the environmental impact, as well as reducing noise and dust fallout from the work to the local community and wildlife.

These two projects won local accolades and a slew of awards for environmental management.

Our commitment is real. We believe in "Creating what matters" today without compromising tomorrow.
