More
Baulderstone was chosen by Banque Nationale de Paris to undertake refurbishment and restoration of an historic six storey office building at 90 Williams Street.
Originally built around the turn of the century, the building consisted of solid brick perimeter walls, steel column and beam framing and lightweight cindcrete concrete floor slabs with timber flooring. The sandstone façade and some internal finishes were classified by the National Trust to be preserved.
Baulderstone’s contract included major renovation of the building, restoration of the façade, the addition of another floor, and the entire interior fitout. We were also required to increase the lettable area by enclosing the central light court.
A challenging feature of the project involved supporting the external walls while all the floors were removed and the structural steel reworked and re-erected to withstand the increased loads.
This method required using a central column as the intersecting point for wall bracing, which was suspended from the sixth floor and extended downwards as the slabs were demolished.
