Glebe Island (Anzac) Bridge, an imposing yet elegant structure visible from most points of the city is a relative newcomer to the list.
By far the largest cable stayed structure in Australia and one of the world's largest cable stayed bridges with a cast-in-situ concrete deck, the project included approach earthworks, pavements and all electrical works.
The 805m long bridge comprises 6 spans with the 3 central spans being cable stayed. The three end spans are prestressed concrete twin box girder construction. The 345 main span across Johnston Bay provides for a minimum navigation clearance of 27m.
The bridge construction resulted in numerous notable achievements including:

opening of the Glebe Island Arterial 15 months in advance of the client's schedule, due to Baulderstone Hornibrook's performance on this project and on the approach viaducts carried out under separate contracts.

an exceptional safety performance - believed to be the best safety performance ever achieved world-wide on a bridge of this type.

award by the Institute of Engineers of the 1996 Engineering Excellence Award for Project Development Infrastructure.
