This $71 million facility is the first stage development of a new leading edge Biotechnology Research Facility (Bio21) for Melbourne University. Research in the precinct will focus on nanotechnology, neurodegenerative diseases, dental biotechnology and medical and veterinary vaccines.
The 23,000m2 area is housed in a purpose-built seven-storey research and development facility in the University’s western precinct. The project consists of two separate multi-storey buildings linked by a glass atrium comprised of structural steel bridges and a central suspended steel, concrete and glass lift core.
The glazed curtain wall features an additional outer layer of glass louvres and 100 stainless steel flues projecting 8m above the highest roof point.
