Following on closely from the successful completion of the Crown Metropol Hotel, the Mahogany Room Redevelopment is the fourth consecutive project Baulderstone has undertaken for Crown at their Southbank premises.
The project involved the complete makeover and extension of the high roller gaming area, the Mahogany Room, at the eastern end of Crown Casino. The room was expanded by almost fifty percent to present a dramatic new façade overlooking the Yarra River.
The works were made up of two components. The first, was the staged refurbishment and fitout of the existing Crown Mahogany Room, including the complete refurbishment of the existing V.I.P. private gaming salons to the highest international standard.
The second component was the 1500m2 extension of Level 1 adjacent to the existing Crown Hotel's Porte Cochere, with a premium roof top bar above, with lounge areas and terraces enjoying views across the Yarra. The existing Porte Cochere remained in operation during the construction works, protected with gantries and hoardings.
The balance of the works included significant work in the existing basement carpark to strengthen footings, two new lift shafts, a roof top plant room, extensive services relocations and external landscaping.
On completion of the works, members gained access to a new private gaming salon, an increased number of gaming tables and an exclusive 'club' atmosphere with new non-gaming facilities.
