In November 2007, contracts were signed by the Macquarie University and Dalcross Private Hospital for the construction of NSW’s first private teaching hospital – the Macquarie University Private Hospital. This joint venture development between Macquarie University and Dalcross Private Hospital, consists of a 144 bed private hospital and specialist clinic buildings and will provide state of the art hospital facilities with high quality care standards, as well as facilitate the delivery of health education and research on site.
The $112m project will involve the demolition of existing buildings and site preparation works to allow the construction of a 5 level facility with basement parking incorporating 144 patient beds, 10 operating theatres, 2 cardiac and vascular angiography suites, radiology and pathology suites and associated support functions. The hospital will be connected to the specialist clinic building via an overhead bridge and the clinic building will house consulting spaces as well as university research and teaching spaces. This building will be 5 levels with 2 levels being associated with the university and the above 3 floors being fitted out as specialist consulting suites.
The Hospital will incorporate the latest design features, providing inpatient and outpatient services, and will make a positive contribution to health services in the area. It will complement teaching and research services already offered at the University and will be a resource available for referral by general practitioners and specialists.
The scope of works includes:
• Demolition of an existing building currently accommodating Macquarie University Office of Facilities Management
• Construction of a new 5 storey hospital building above ground and one level of basement car parking (218 spaces)
• 144 bed private hospital beds including associated support functions
• Shell space for retail shop, coffee shop, kitchen, medical imaging services area and physiotherapy/hydrotherapy on ground level;
• Shell space for Radiotherapy, Oncology, Theatre Sterile Supply Unit (TSSU), Pathology, Medical Consulting and teaching spaces
• Loading dock area for deliveries and ambulance access
• Construction of an elevated 2 level enclosed bridge to link the hospital to the clinic building
• Construction of a new 5 storey specialist clinic building and two levels of basement car parking (238 spaces)
• Fitout for the clinic.
