Located on a prime site looking north over the Yarra River, Esso Australia’s new 18-storey corporate headquarters became a striking addition to the city’s revitalised Southbank area.
The $63 million design and construct contract, incorporated energy saving features, such as high performance, heat-insulating glass and automatic dimming devices that adjusted to the amount of natural light entering the building.
A cool temperature rainforest and open air staff restaurant was held within in a six storey semicircular glazed atrium, and also acted as a unique entryway. A Teflon canvas awning provided a link between the riverside and rainforest areas.
The building included 13 office levels, with entry, reception, restaurant and kitchens at the ground level, three levels of basement car parking and a plant room.
A fit-out of more than 1,000 offices and rooms was also undertaken, providing state-of-the-art security and communication facilities, modern in-house kitchen/restaurant and an exclusive health club/gymnasium.
