Baulderstone's project team developed special procedures and methods to produce a high performance floor that set new standards for large warehouses.
One of the major criteria was a work-hardened floor with excellent abrasion resistance and minimal joints. This highly durable floor had the precise tolerances required to cope with continual, rapid forklift movement and provide stability to lift material into racks up to 15 metres high. Each pour measured 40m x 70m and the 60mpa high strength concrete had low-shrink and crack-free properties. Tolerances of +1/-2mm on a three metre straight-edge and +1/-4mm overall were achieved, constituting a very flat floor finish.
The use of Chevron joints across the aisles was also incorporated into the slab design to minimise impact on powered pallet trucks. These joints were opened up with saw cuts, then resealed with a 100mpa epoxy filling. Quality control included live testing for the running of pallet and fork trucks, proving the effectiveness of our team's design and construction techniques.
