More
The Hardened and Networked Army, Head Contract 2 project consisted of the construction of new common user facilities to support both the existing site population and the proposed HNA personnel relocating to the base. Building works consisted of several major new facilities;
• A new Health Facility including 20 in-patient beds, emergency department and dental suites
• A Combined Mess Building including dining and recreation
• A Physical Fitness Centre (which incorporates a 50 metre swimming pool)
• A Commercial Facility including a cafe and hairdresser
• A Community Facility including meeting spaces and indoor and outdoor play areas.
External works were also delivered including new car parking, access roads, recreational grounds and landscaping infrastructure associated with the new facilities. The entire site was located within the RAAF base at Edinburgh which presented significant challenges in site access and movement control. Defence required a permanent, barbed wire-topped site boundary fence and a separate site entry. A staged handover that meant the site boundary shifted over time was also required and successfully delivered by Baulderstone. All stages of the works were completed within the contractual milestones and budget.
Additional works including extensive side wide remediation activities were also completed within the original program dates.
