The Mackay Base Hospital Redevelopment will transform the existing hospital into a new state of the art medical facility. Redevelopment works include emergency and outpatients' departments, delivery suites and special care nursery, intensive care unit and coronary care unit, day surgery and operating theatre suite, inpatient surgical and medical wards, renal support services, dental services unit, and mental health facilities.

The Mackay Base Hospital is located approximately 1km from the CBD and offers medical services to approximately 135,000 people in the Mackay region.
The redevelopment will transform the existing Mackay Base Hospital into a new state of the art medical facility comprising 318 beds. Once completed the facility will offer a higher standard and wider range of health services to the North Queensland region.
Redevelopment of the Mackay Base Hospital will include emergency and outpatients' departments, delivery suites and special care nursery, intensive care unit and coronary care unit, day surgery and operating theatre suite, inpatient surgical and medical wards, renal support services, dental services unit, and mental health facilities.
As well as these, non medical facility redevelopments will take place with an expanded visitor and staff car park, new laundry, stores and engineering facilities.
The project will be delivered in three stages with stage one started in March 2010 and completion of all stages by March 2014.
The three stages include - early works (Stage 1); main acute and IPU buildings (Stage 2), and entry / ambulatory care building / frontage works / refurbishment (Stage 3)
On completion of the redevelopment, the Mackay Base Hospital with its state of the art medical facilities will offer the latest high quality health care services to the Mackay region.
