The Maroochy River Bridge forms part of the Sunshine Motorway which links the Bruce Highway to the Sunshine Coast.
The bridge is 410m long and comprises 13 spans each approximately 31m long. All piles for the bridge were of composite construction comprising a 350mm square reinforced concrete section attached mechanically to a 550mm octagonal prestressed section. The marine piles were pre-assembled and driven off a temporary falsework frame.
A precast outer shell was fabricated for the marine pilecaps and then lifted onto the piles and sealed to allow the pilecap proper to be constructed in the dry.
A rockfill / sheet pile jetty was constructed for the supply of materials to the 50 tonne floating whirler crane.
The superstructure of the bridge comprised 6 precast prestressed I-beams per span supporting the cast-in-situ concrete deck and kerbs.
Baulderstone’s contract included all bridge and navigation lighting.
