Baulderstone’s innovative design and construction on this project provided the client with substantial cost savings.
The $10.1 million project was one of three in the first stage of the Eastern Freeway extension and involved the realignment and elevating of Middleborough Road.
The project included construction of two road bridges, a pedestrian bridge, and embankment and roadworks construction. It also involved the realignment of Koonung Creek in an environmentally sensitive area.
The realignment produced a natural looking creek, with rock beaching used to protect it during high flows. The beams constructed for the creek’s bridge were the largest ever used in Victoria.
Other roadworks included pavement construction, stormwater and electrical installations. The project was completed on time and with minimal disruption to the travelling public along Middleborough Road.
