Mingara Recreation Club is the largest sporting and recreation facility on the Central Coast.
The 16,500m2 complex includes an eight-lane 50-metre competition pool, viewing area, a leisure pool with beach entry and fountains, toddlers' pools, hydrotherapy pool, two spas, fully-equipped gymnasium, two bowling greens, a multi-purpose hall, gaming and function rooms, restaurants, a 700-seat food court, retail outlets and parking for 820 vehicles. Passive solar features and natural ventilation were included in the two-level building which features extensive use of glass panels and curved roof sections.
As it is located on marshy ground, extensive stabilisation was required for the structure and sporting areas. During construction a natural watercourse was diverted via a new drainage channel into a settling pond to control runoff, with the drainage channel now linking into the area's existing drainage systems. Timber piles were required under every column in the structure, which is of conventional reinforced concrete with a steel-framed structure over the pool area.
Our team worked closely with the client in a partnership arrangement with in order to meet the project's cost and design objectives. This extended to assisting in the sports and leisure centre staff's training and induction during the commissioning of the pools.
On completion, Mingara's General Manager John Osborne wrote "we could see that you were genuinely motivated by delivering a high-quality product that exceeded the expectations of your clients. ... It is now history that the project was completed on time and on budget and the product matched the sell in every aspect."
