This state of the art newspaper production facility was construction managed by Baulderstone and completed, to a fast track program with several major design changes, on time and within budget. The technically advanced platemaking, printing and publishing equipment are housed in a sophisticated, climate controlled building with it’s own power supply and high quality amenities, including a large cafeteria, training rooms and a gymnasium. Covering a total of 21,000m2, the production facility is capable of printing 80,000 full colour newspapers per hour.
Baulderstone was also appointed to receive and install all of the specialist production machinery. This included a water filtration plant, automatic guided vehicle system to feed paper to the presses, sophisticated hot and cold energy services as well as the press equipment. Special attention was given to designing the plant’s services. Obtaining and maintaining exacting humidity conditions in the press hall was essential in order to achieve a high quality colour print product. Publishing equipment installed in the Mail Room collates, inserts and bundles the newspapers with distribution handled in the adjacent 2700m2 dispatch area.
