Set back from the street in order to blend in with the surrounding predominantly two-storey structures, the three-storey centre has street-level restaurants and an outdoor dining terrace at the first floor. Catering for the growing inner-city population, Norton Plaza Shopping Centre provides the opportunity to dine with the convenience of supermarket shopping until midnight.
The centre houses a new generation Coles Supermarket with wider aisles and other user-friendly features designed to attract shoppers from competing stores in the area. In addition, its 28 specialty shops include banking facilities as well as a mini market and cafes.
At the time of tender, Baulderstone initiated a redesign of the structure to generate savings and provide a more competitive price. Other value management initiatives included the investigation of siphonic stormwater systems as well as
the design and construction
of services.
The tight site borders on residential properties restricting access to facades resulted in the use of a tilt-panel system at an early stage. This also provided a noise barrier during construction.
