The Henry Deane Building adjacent to Central Station in Sydney was the second major building Baulderstone constructed at Henry Deane Park. The building was pre-leased to the NSW Department of Public Works and Services (DPWS) on behalf of the NSW Government.
PlanningNSW (formerly NSW Department of Urban Affairs and Planning) occupies six floors, and the Department of Public Works and Services, Department of Education and Training and State Rail also have tenancies in the building. The building fitout was integrated with the base building construction to ensure completion in November 2001. The design and fitout contract involved approximately 6200m2 and comprised design, supply and construction/installation of all partitions, doors, fixed offices, meeting rooms, utility rooms and kitchen joinery, work stations and reception desks.
In accordance with NSW Government initiatives on sustainable development, the Henry Deane project adopted Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) as one of its core values. The innovative and sustainable outcomes resulted in new standards for government office accommodation. Baulderstone’s brief was to reflect the unique culture of the primary tenant, PlanningNSW, by creating an interior fitout design incorporating the sustainable life cycle of materials and products used in the building. This guided the selection of products throughout the procurement phase of the fitout, with non-polluting and recyclable products manufactured from renewable resources given preference to ones which did not meet ESD objectives. The building was completed four months ahead of schedule and fulfilled the objectives of all stakeholders.
