Baulderstone was contracted to Riverland Water Pty Ltd for detailed design, construction and commissioning of 10 water filtration plants located along the River Murray in South Australia. Riverland Water operates the plants in a BOO Contract with S.A. Water Corporation for 25 years.
The purpose of these plants is to provide clear and clean water to consumers in rural townships and country areas of the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Yorke Peninsula and Murray Valley and completes the program of filtered water supply to consumers which was commenced by the South Australian Government in the mid 1970s. Each plant consists of a raw water pumping station and process units for chemical dosing, mixing, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. Tanks for storage of filtered water and a treated water pumping station at each plant deliver the final product into the S.A. Water Corporation distribution system.
Process and storage tanks are reinforced concrete construction and the plants are designed for unattended operation with monitoring and control through a SCADA system. Operation and control centres have been provided at the Berri and Murray Bridge plants.
The project was delivered in 2 stages:
-
The Summit and Swan Reach plants which were completed at the end of December 1997.
-
The remaining 8 plants which were completed between June 1998 and November 1999.
This project was part of an S.A. Government initiative to develop a world-class water industry in South Australia and to generate export orientated expertise in the State.
