Baulderstone completed construction management of the first stage of the redevelopment of the Navy’s HMAS Cerberus training facility.
A number of challenges were presented by the marine works, which included a wharf, boat ramp and floating marina. Dredging soft silt, ironstone and stiff clay was required to form a turning basin for patrol boats.
Working to a project environmental plan, dredged material was pumped via a floating pipeline to a large effluent basin to allow sludge material to settle out. These practices ensured the survival of important seagrasses and native marine plants.
The Seamanship School buildings featured a demonstration hall with three large scale model ships to enable simulation of towing, anchoring, berthing, refuelling and other onboard activities. It also housed other learning, administration and support facilities.
In 1991, we were also contracted to construct the $4.6 million Recruit School adjacent to the Seamanship School within the naval base.
