Dual level loading ramps were constructed at Station Pier for TT Line Company to enable their Spirit of Tasmania ferries to simultaneously load both freight and cars.
A significant challenge for the project involved using the existing 100-year-old wharf to construct the bridges during the hours available between ship loadings.
The works included driving steel piles with protective coating and a composite painted structural steel superstructure. A feature of the project was a 16m high steel mast on the upper ramp, with stainless steel wires connected to the deck.
An additional contract, awarded two months after commencement of the project, was the repair and modification of the bow fender, which had been damaged. This was repaired within a very short time frame and was carried out during non-critical times of the day.
