More
The new Stockland North Shore shopping centre is part of a 13 hectare town centre development that will form the centrepiece of Stockland's North Shore community.
The 5,600m2 new shopping centre includes 4,968m² retail GLA with a Woolworths Supermarket, 14 specialty shops and 612m² GLA of commercial tenancy space.
Located near an environmentally sensitive wetland, all construction and operational centre waste and run-off required significant consideration in the design.
The centre has been awarded a 4 Star Green Star - Retail Centre Design v1 Certified Rating. The centre is the first in Queensland and the third nationally to achieve this rating for 'best practice' in environmentally sustainable design.
Some of the unique ESD features of the shopping centre include:
Rainwater harvesting which would see up to 35,000 litres of rainwater being captured in underground tanks and used to water surrounding gardens.
Three bio-retention ponds around the centre allow other rainwater to travel along natural filters, which clean the water naturally of pollutants, including oil from carparks, before the water runs off into nearby creeks.
Other ESD initiatives include a bike pod to encourage cyclists to ride to the shops, solar-powered hot water showers for staff, LED lights and timers in carparks, water saving devices in toilets and the use of plants to cover the entire western wall for natural cooling.
