Baulderstone ’s vision for the Teneriffe area has seen the transformation of a 4.6ha site to a development that is not only a first for Brisbane, but is in keeping with the world wide trend of sophisticated inner city and urban living. The innovation, architecture and construction of the Teneriffe Wharves provides a much sought after lifestyle. The development is comprised of five precincts developed in three stages. As a catalyst for the area many other developments of a similar nature have followed this flagship project.
Stage 1, included the transformation of Mactaggarts Place, an existing, unused woolstore into 154 one, two and three bedroom apartments, shops and an office. Also incorporated in this stage was Mercantile-Dalgety Place. The construction of these two new ‘clusters’ of 84 villas and apartments, is intended as Mediterranean in style whilst still capturing the historic ethos of the Teneriffe precinct.
Stage 2, Winchcombe Place and Goldsborough Place consists of an additional 113 apartments, five shops, an office and a health club. Completed in May 1998, Carson Place was the final stage, consisting of 32 new exclusive apartments. Teneriffe Wharves also boast a self contained environment of courtyards, boardwalks, parks and pools.
Constructed mainly from concrete block and brickwork, the new buildings portray a Mediterranean style through the textures and colours, however the light, open feeling of the architecture is unmistakably subtropical Brisbane. Major works and infrastructure included a new river wall and promenade, the widening of roads, the installation and upgrading of underground power, sewers and gas services.
