When the original 1919 Torrumbarry Weir began to deteriorate, a replacement structure was considered of critical importance. Not only did the weir assist in navigation along the Murray River, it also provided a crucial supply of 500,000Ml of irrigation water to local farmers.
The $3.5 million stage one works in Echuca included vital excavation for the weir. The works also included sheet piling for wing and retaining walls, a reinforced concrete diaphragm wall and a slurry cut-off wall.
A dewatering and groundwater monitoring system was also designed and installed, overcoming the technical challenges associated with the complex geology of the site.
