The Orchard Hills Water Treatment plant, constructed by Baulderstone, treats water from Warragamba Dam to provide western Sydney with drinking water which meets the current World Health Organisation Standards for water quality. The project included detailed design of process equipment, all on-site construction and installation work, commissioning and maintenance for the first 12 months. The new plant replaces a facility built 25 years ago which was decommissioned as the new plant came on line.
The water retaining structures comprise ten filters cells which required high quality reinforced concrete construction. Baulderstone carried out most on-site civil construction and mechanical installation works directly. Pipe work including large diameter cement-lined piping was fabricated at Baulderstone ’s specialist piping workshop also located in Sydney’s west.
